The Mount is our house filter blend, showcasing coffees which provide good fruit sweetness, juicy body and a smooth balance. This version combines a female-produced Guatemalan coffee with berry and nutty sweetness, with a community lot from Myanmar, presenting gentle but complex acidity and notes of stone fruits.
Finca Alta Mira Sur in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala is owned by the incredible Alba de León and her daughters, Alma and Patricia Herrera. The farm operations are run almost entirely by women, with only two male employees – a real rarity in the coffee producing world. For many years, the farm operated at a loss as women traditionally have restricted access to education and resources in rural Guatemala, but with dedication and skill they have been able to improve their infrastructure and the quality of their coffee.
The A Lel Chaung community in Ywangan, Myanmar, is part of the Shwe Taung Thu farmers’ group, which formed in 2018 during USAID’s ‘Value Chains for Rural Development’ project, which supported smallholder farmers to switch to high value specialty coffee from commercial grade coffee. The group provides leadership, finance, technical assistance and market linkages for its members with the objective of bringing fairer trade conditions for its coffees. The community donated 10% of the profit gained from the sale of this crop to village development, with the rest used for child education and daily expenses.
